if you could only see

my eyes turn blue when i think of you...

i have chameleon eyes...

most of the time they are a light blue-green with a subtle increasingly brown invasion due to a rare eye degeneration taking over which will inevitably lead to the loss of my vision one day…

so i open my eyes… i take it all in… i try to see everything while i can… the vivid colors, the beauty, the pain, the laughter, the love… all around me… in all things… i try to view everyday surroundings with a tourist eye… see things from my own unique perspective…

my chameleon eyes change with the color of my clothes, color of my surroundings, environment, shading and reflection of light, changing of the tides, changing of my many moods and feelings… they change ever often…

... it's said that the eyes are the windows to the soul… and mine are often pretty clear and wide open… if you know me… my eyes easily give me away… give away my secrets, thoughts, feelings… for each moment they change color and hue with the flow of life, laughter, and love in all the moments i live…

... but… if you could only see the way i see…
... I know

you got your reasons…
you got your lies…
you got your manipulations they cut me down to size…
you say you love, but you won't.

… do you see that the road less traveled shows happiness unrivaled?… and that you got to take a little dirt to keep what you love…
you don't though… or do you?

do you see… that i've been stretching out my arms for something that's just not there…
… believe me… that others don't understand that true one-of-a-kind love that only two connected souls can…

… and you say you love… but you don't…

true love is worth the fight… the hardship… the risk…

and my eyes turn blue because…

i do…

… love you

I was so fortunate to hear this song performed by the writers in studio one morning on my way to work when i lived in metropolis detroit, mi… if you ever catch drew and mike on wrif they are worth the tune in… so funny, raunchy, light-hearted, silly… just a riot in the mornings for tackling that morning commute in motor city where EVERYONE and their dog has a car… alternative modes of transportation don't and will never exist in this city…
listening to the morning show that morning the writers shared the story behind the song and sang a live acoustic stripped and raw version of it… the song is already pretty simple… so this was just an absolute treat to hear it even more rare and beautiful… tonic… a one hit wonder with this song… it is haunting, sweet, innocent, deep, clear, honest, and brilliant…
traveling to work… i reached the parking lot of emerald city… aka eds in troy, mi… and decided to just sit in the car and take in the remainder of the interview and song… wow am so glad i did…
the lyrics make this one of my favorite songs… they reach that definition that I feel when I think of that deep one-of-a-kind love that only you and one other connected soul can truly experience… the songwriter is trying to give us an understanding of that love… it is so hard to explain this type of love… everyone else is entirely seeing it from their own perspective and have absolutely no idea or clue how deep that kind of love really goes… if you ever experience a love so strong, deep and deafening… you are truly blessed… it is a place and a feeling unmatched by any other… so profound and beautiful… but scary and dark at times too… this song reaches that definition for me… I just get it… and I just thoroughly enjoy this song and the intricate meaning(s) behind it… and that live acoustic version… will forever be embedded in my memory… just wonderful…

if you could only see; tonic

If you could only see the way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me

Well you got your reasons
And you got your lies
And you got your manipulations
They cut me down to size

Sayin' you love but you don't
You give your love but you won't

If you could only see the way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me

Seems the road less traveled
Show's happiness unrivaled
And you've got to take a little dirt
To keep what you love
That's what you gotta do

Sayin' you love but you don't
You give your love but you won't
You're stretching out your arms to something that's just not there
sayin you love where you stand
Give you heart when you can

If you could only see the way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me

Sayin' you love but you don't
You give your love but you won't
Sayin' you love where you stand
Give your heart when you can

If you could only see the way she loves me
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me
